With the increasing demand of the gasoline because of its low price and non-availability of a compressed natural Gas in Pakistan and the fact that Pakistan imports 2/3rd of the gasoline its becoming essential to setup more refineries in the country and increase the production of these fossils fuels. FCC unit is the essential part of the modern refineries that focus on the production of more of the middle fractions like Naphtha or Gasoline. With no working FCC plant in Pakistan it becomes important to discuss the feasibility of this project that has been used around the globe for decades. The following report signifies the application of Fluid Catalytic Cracking Process in a refinery and its superiority above similar cracking processes. The process is described in detail to develop the early understanding of the process. A market trend is observed that shows the increase in the demand of the product gasoline with time around the globe as well as in Pakistan. There is a major role of the development of catalyst in this process over time and these catalyst modifications actually made this process to be used on industrial scale; with much development, already been done the role of different elements present in the catalyst are described along with the usual composition of such catalyst. The Material and Energy Balance of a similar configuration is completed for steady state and the design of the reactor, regenerator, furnace and the fractionator is also added in this report. The control strategy for the fractionator involved in our system is also done and details of which are included in this report. The HAZOP of the furnace is described in detail to counter the operational problems most commonly faced.
